Message & Notifications From The Principal

Dear Families and Friends

This week we farewell Mr David Ballingall who has taken on a short term Principalship at Kururrungku Catholic Education Centre, Billiluna for the remainder of the school year. We wish David all the very best in his new role. I will be in Broome next week for a Principal meeting. Mrs Laura Christopher will lead the school in my absence.

Year 5/6 Camp
Thank you to Mr Roberts, Mr Jamie, Mrs Marcia, Ms Deb, Mr Absalom and Ms Judith for organising our Year 5/6 camp. We ask that all students are at school no later than 7:50am on Wednesday 12th August so that the bus can be packed and ready to depart for an action packed three days at Lake Argyle. Students can be collected from school on Friday as per our regular dismissal time at 2:00pm. Thanks also to Ms Kris in the canteen who will prepare food for the campers to enjoy. Please don't hesitate to contact the school should you have any queries.
Year 4 students and any Year 5 or 6 students not attending camp will work with Ms Tanya Lockwood and the Year 3 class.

Welcome
Welcome again to Miss Harriet Maingard who has formally commenced her role as our new Pre-Primary teacher. We wish Harriet, Tanya (Year 3) and Miss Izzy Stewart (Literacy and Numeracy Support) all the best for the remainder of the year.
We also welcome Bodhanna and Nikayah, East Kimberley College students who have been working with our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary classes during their work placement this week.

Our Statue of Mary Mackillop is now complete with the plaque being attached this week. We look forward to using this space for prayer and reflection as a school community. Thanks to Hugh from A & O United for assisting us in this final step in what has been a lengthy process!

School fees make an important contribution to providing your child with the best possible education.

Families who have a Health Care Card are asked to present it at the office for the appropriate discount on their tuition fees. If you are experiencing financial hardship, and are not eligible for the card, please make a time to see the Principal to discuss your individual circumstances.

ALL FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY 25 SEPTEMBER UNLESS A PAYMENT PLAN HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE PRINCIPAL

We prefer card!

In these COVID times we prefer payment by card so that we don’t have to handle cash. There are EFTPOS machines in the office and Canteen. We accept most cards, including the Indue Card.

This week we celebrate the Feast of Mary Mackillop, a very important event as Mary Mackillop is Australia’s first saint and founder of the Sisters of St Joseph. Our Mass will commence on Thursday morning at 8.30am and all families are invited. Sister Julianne has organised a special performance on Friday afternoon, which I know will be most entertaining.

Next week we also remember the Feast of the Assumption and Mass will be held at St. Vincent Pallotti Church on Thursday the 13th August at 8.30am. Junior classes will be shuttled there on the bus and the older students will walk down with staff.

The Sacrament of Eucharist for Charlotte Hogan, Nelly Melpi and Monika Garrity is now re-scheduled to Sunday, 30th of August. Could our classes keep them in our prayers. Confirmation will most likely occur on October 25th.

Sister Julianne will take over the role as Religious Education Coordinator for the remainder of the year as I commence my duties at Kururrungku Catholic Education Centre.  I will look forward to seeing everybody again in the new year.

AFaFE
The Aboriginal Families as First Educators team have enjoyed our first weeks back, focusing on connection. We have already celebrated three birthdays in our playgroup; HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Logan (1), Annette (4) and Eddie (3). We felt honoured to share your special day!
We have loved playtime at Kindy on Wednesdays. On Monday we began a fortnightly program at the Community Garden, where Mandy introduced us to some of the many delights of worms, earth and bare footed exploration of our senses, including the look, smell, taste and touch of different plants. We have felt very welcomed by the many great programs and services that our community provides and look forward to getting out to some of the beautiful places we are blessed with in the Kimberley. This includes an upcoming trip to Wuggubun for a shared playgroup with Kindylinks on August 21st. We welcome any families that would like to join us.

Miss Emma, Miss Bernie & Miss Kimberley

School Bus

Pick-ups and Drop-offs

For the safety of our children, we would like to remind parents that children catching our white Coaster school bus will be dropped off in the afternoon ONLY at the address from which they are picked up in the morning.

Attempts to accommodate parents who ring during the school day asking that their children be dropped off elsewhere have resulted in a number of confusing situations, whereby children have ended up going home to an empty house or to a house where they are not expected.

Children who do not live in Ranch/Garden/Reserve/old town/Hidden Valley may not catch our bus home to a different address.

Your child cannot be dropped off at a different address unless it is an emergency situation (eg you have an emergency visit to the hospital and an arrangement has been made for your child to be cared by another family member or friend).

Many thanks for your cooperation.
