Term Three, Week Five

August 19, 2020

Message & Notifications From The Principal

Dear Families and Friends

Thank you to Mrs Laura Christopher who led the school in what was an action-packed week for all students. Along with Mr David Ballingall, I attended a Leader’s Forum in Broome. David had now commenced his short term Principalship at Kururrungku Catholic Education Centre in Billiluna. Ms Tanya Lockwood is now officially teaching the Year 3 class.

Feast of the Assumption
Last Thursday, Mass was held at St Vincent Pallotti Church for students in Years 1 - 4 for the Feast of the Assumption. Students are to be commended for the reverent manner in which they conducted themselves during this important liturgical event. Thank you to Fr Joel, Sr Julianne and the staff involved in providing this experience for our school community.

Year 5/6 Camp
A big thank you to Mr Luke Roberts, Ms Marcia Constantine, Mr Jamie Short, Ms Deb Rocke and Ms Judith Brennan who led our Years 5 & 6 students in what was a very successful camp.  It was pleasing to hear the positive feedback received by a number of Lake Argyle tour operators regarding the positive behaviour of our students. Some of the activities students enjoyed were: Kayaking, a boat cruise, swimming, art, cooperative games and bush walking. Well done to all involved.

School Banking
Due to insufficient numbers of students participating, school banking has been discontinued until further notice.

Busy Bee
Many thanks to the following families and staff who came along to our Busy Bee last Sunday: Toby and Archie Stanley; Kristen Dodd, Claire, David, Fergus & Hudson French; Vilma, James, Monika and Edward Garrity; Brock Burston; Emma Walker and Laura Christopher. In the space of two hours, the following work was carried out:
  • A speedboat placed in the playground
  • Our new garden shed was assembled
  • The veggie patch was weeded
  • The library bookshelves were tidied
  • New river sand was shovelled into the AFaFE sand pit
Thanks also to Mick from JAB Industries, Ryan from RTC and Guerinonis for generously contributing materials that assisted in this work being carried out.
Stay tuned for more information regarding our Term 4 Busy Bee. Many hands make light work!

Notes
It has been pleasing to see signed disco consent forms with payment of $5 being returned to the office. A note concerning our Father’s Day Breakfast will be sent home next week. Please complete and return promptly so that the catering arrangements can be made for what promises to be a great event.

COVID-19
We are encouraging students to maintain good hygiene practices whilst they are at school, in addition to enhanced cleaning of commonly used areas. A reminder that if children are sick, they must remain at home until their symptoms have subsided. Thanks in anticipation of your understanding.

School Photos
We look forward to our school photos next Friday, 28th August. A reminder that students must be dressed in their full school uniform. See the photo forms for payment options and return to your child’s teacher.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Reminders

School Fees were re-issued last week. Many of our families have either paid all their fees or are well on their way to having them paid in full by the end of Term 3.

School fees make an important contribution to providing your child with the best possible education.

Families who have a Health Care Card are asked to present it at the office for the appropriate discount on their tuition fees. If you are experiencing financial hardship, and are not eligible for the card, please make a time to see the Principal to discuss your individual circumstances.

ALL FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY 25 SEPTEMBER UNLESS A PAYMENT PLAN HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE PRINCIPAL

We will continue to work on reducing our waste and recycling our rubbish this term.

We prefer card!

In these COVID times we prefer payment by card so that we don’t have to handle cash. There are EFTPOS machines in the office and Canteen. We accept most cards, including the Indue Card.

Miss Sandra (Pre-Primary)

Pre-Primary welcomes Miss Harriet.

We have been practising our assembly item for next Friday and also for our Athletics Carnival.  We are strong learners in Pre-Primary with most children attending every day.

Miss Bernie (Year 1)

Geography- Travel Corner- During Term 3 Year 1 have been exploring, learning about and discovering  different countries to which they would like to travel.

The students created passports and identification documents needed to travel to their destinations.

Their personal flight attendant provided engaging facts and information about their destinations.

Miss Judith (Year 2)

Each morning the Year 2 class have been using the Mirriwoong Season Calendar to learn Mirriwoong language. At the moment it is the cold season which is Warnka-Mageny.

Miss Susan (Year 3)

Last week Miss Tanya started teaching full time in Year 3. We have been learning about Australian history and how it has changed over time. Year 4 joined  us whilst the rest of the Year 4/5 students went on camp.

OSH News
We are halfway through Term 3 so booking forms for September-October vacation care will be out soon. Paper copies will be available at OSHC and electronic copies emailed to families already enrolled.
Our centre uses the Early Years Learning and My Time, Our Place frameworks so our activities are based around the Being, Belonging, Becoming outcome, the five areas of which are shown to the right. We follow these frameworks when planning our fortnightly programs.
Last holidays the children enjoyed painting a large snake on the verandah with Miss Sophie. Feel free to come and have a look; it is a work in progress as we would like to include the children’s hand prints as well. A lot of craft work was also included in our program as well as a lego challenge - always popular! In addition we did some cooking, sports and numerous other activities.

School Bus

Pick-ups and Drop-offs

For the safety of our children, we would like to remind parents that children catching our white Coaster school bus will be dropped off in the afternoon ONLY at the address from which they are picked up in the morning.

Attempts to accommodate parents who ring during the school day asking that their children be dropped off elsewhere have resulted in a number of confusing situations, whereby children have ended up going home to an empty house or to a house where they are not expected.

Children who do not live in Ranch/Garden/Reserve/old town/Hidden Valley may not catch our bus home to a different address.

Your child cannot be dropped off at a different address unless it is an emergency situation (eg you have an emergency visit to the hospital and an arrangement has been made for your child to be cared by another family member or friend).

Many thanks for your cooperation.
