Term 2, Week 6

June 1, 2022

Principal's Piece

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your support over the last week with our whole school events. We had a wonderful Cross Country carnival last Friday and we were so proud of all our students. What was most impressive was the support and encouragement students offered each other throughout the carnival. Thank you to the students that came early and helped set up as well as pack away at the end of the carnival. Thanks to all our parents\carers who volunteered on the day. Thanks to our staff for their dedication and enthusiasm and a big thank you to Mrs Kehl for her co-ordination of the day.

We were blown away by the generosity of our community for our Reconciliation week Bake Sale. Our staffroom table was covered from end to end with delicious baked goods. Thank you to everyone who donated something and to all the children that came with gold coins to donate. We had a great day and there was a positive vibe within the school the whole day.

On Monday, our Year 5\6 students led our school assembly which had a focus on Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day. The students shared what these events were all about and we came together as a Catholic School community to reflect and pray. We discussed the theme for this year's Reconciliation Week ‘Be Brave. Make change’ and all students were challenged to make a positive change for our school community this week.

This week the staff will be participating in Professional Learning in literacy on Thursday and Friday. We are looking forward to working with consultants from Catholic Education to develop our knowledge and skills to support the range of diverse learners at our school. Just a reminder that this means no school for students on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd of June. We look forward to seeing everyone back after the extra-long weekend on Tuesday 7th June.

Next week we will celebrate our first whole school mass for the year with Fr Joel. This mass will celebrate Pentecost – the birthday of the church. Mass will be held in the school library at 1130am on Wednesday 8th June.

Just a reminder that Parents/Carers are welcome to come to the front office and collect their supply of free Rapid Antigen Tests.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Miss Gabby

Principal

In Art, we have been drawing and painting self-portraits. We researched two artists and explained how their artistic style influenced our creations. For example, Grace's art is inspired by Frida Kahlo and Mary Cassat while Ty-Quade's art was inspired by Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh.

We are focusing on using constructive language to build our confidence and knowledge rather than deconstructive language. We have begun learning about our government, democracy and being an active citizen to help others. During Writing, we have focussed on information texts and are learning about animal adaptations, too. We are learning many new facts!

Our class continues to focus on caring for the environment and we have just begun working alongside Revive to collect and recycle markers/ pens and soft plastics in every classroom. We are also looking forward to collecting more compost for our garden. We continue to learn more about Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si' by focusing on acting kindly towards one another and nature.

Year 5/6 Teacher

Cross Country

It was a very successful day all round, with lots of fun and support for each other from our whole school. Congratulations to all our students who ran as hard as they could, and a big congratulations to our winners.

Ord were our overall faction winner, cheering extremely loud all day.

BAKE SALE

There were loads of generous donations for our bake sale on Tuesday that we had to do it gain on Wednesday.
