Term 2, Week 5

May 26, 2022

Principal's Piece

Dear Parents\Carers,

We are all looking forward to the Cross Country Carnival this Friday 27th May. The day will begin with the opening ceremony at 8:15am and then we will be getting straight into racing. We hope you will be able to join us. If you are available to help with the set up on Friday morning, we would love to have your help from about 7am. Please note, students are required to bring their own recess and lunch for the day and the canteen will be available for those students that need to order on the day we will not be able to take any canteen orders for adults or non St Joseph’s students. We ask that students apply sunscreen at the start of the day, wear a hat as well as enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle for the day. Students are welcome to wear their faction colours on the day

This week we have been talking about Being Responsible at school as part of our school wide B.O.A.B.S. The students have been identifying the behavior we would like to have at our school as part of being responsible students. This includes following school rules, working hard and doing our best learning. We look forward to celebrating our students who have received a BOAB card at each Monday assembly and on our Friday assemblies.

Next week we will be welcoming a number of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) consultants to our school to work alongside our teachers and Aboriginal Teaching Assistants. We have Margaret McMahon who is the literacy consultant based out of Broome here on Tuesday as well as Merrilee Lands who is the newly appointed Aboriginal Education Consultant. On Wednesday we have Julie Waller at school who is our school psychologist for this year. We look forward to the professional learning that will take place during their visits.

This Sunday Violet Smith will be making the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. We look forward to joining her and her family in this celebration at our Sunday mass. On the 12th June Bishop Michael Morrissey will be presiding over our Sacrament of Confirmation Mass where Grace McPhee-Herbert and Tylen Johnson will receive the sacrament. Over the next few weeks they will work with their classroom teacher and Sr Julianne to prepare to receive the sacrament.

The St Joseph’s OSHC is closed as of this Wednesday 25th May 5:00pm. At this stage I am not able to provide you with any more information about who may be taking over the service. As soon as this is confirmed I look forward to sharing this with the community.

Free Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT’s) for each student have now been delivered to the school. These free RATs will support our students to continue to attend school for face-to-face learning and will minimise disruption to their schooling.  You will be able to test your child at home if they are feeling unwell.  You can also use these RATs if your child is a close contact to enable them to test daily and continue to attend school, as long as they receive a negative result, remain asymptomatic, and wear a mask if they are in Year 7 and above. A letter from WA Health which explains how to use the RATs will be attached to each supply of RAT’s. Parents/caregivers can collect from the front office during school hours 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. If your child becomes symptomatic, they should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. You should notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID-19.  Refer to healthywa.wa.gov.au for information on close contact definition, testing, and isolation requirements. Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our school COVID-19 safe.

Just a reminder that we have no school next Thursday 2nd June and Friday 3rd of June and Monday the 6th June is a public holiday, so no school also. We hope you enjoy a wonderful long weekend.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Principal

Grade 1 Students were very lucky to have a visitor to the classroom. Evie Ford's Grandad, Mr. Clive, brought in a variety of shells for the students to study, ask questions about and draw. Student's were interested in exploring the different shapes, textures, sizes, and colors.

Mitchell was interested in knowing how shells were made from. Oliver wanted to know what the largest shell in the world was. Leah and I'Lenah liked the colours of the shell. Hudson, Lachie and Beatrix talked about the kinds of animals that lived in shells. Tyeken and Kathisha loved how when you put the shell to your ear, it sounds like you can hear the ocean. Thank you Mr. Clive for coming in and sharing your shells and information.

Our school is always interested in having people come in and share their knowledge, skills, or interesting items with the students. Please contact the school or a teacher to let them know what you have to offer.
