Principal's Piece
Dear Parents/Carers,
We have had another wonderful week of learning at St Joseph’s. Our teachers are in the process of writing their semester one reports and we look forward to celebrating all the learning that has taken place despite all the challenges we have faced this year.
This week our ATA’s and TA’s began planning for our NAIDOC week celebrations in week 10 of this term. We have missed opportunities to gather as a school community and this week will provide us with many events to come together, which we are all excited about. We look forward to sharing our plans with you in the next few weeks. Before NAIDOC week we will be also celebrating Reconciliation Week as a school. Reconciliation week runs from 27th May to the 3rd of June and the theme for this year is ‘Be brave Make a change’. We would like to mark this week with two events on Tuesday 31st May. We are asking all students to wear yellow to school for a gold coin donation and we will be having a cake sale at recess. If you would like to donate a cake or something sweet that would be great. All donations will go towards our school gardens.
The students have been busy preparing for our Cross Country carnival next Friday 27th May. The day will begin at 8:15am with a short opening ceremony and then we will be getting straight into racing. The day will conclude with an award presentation. Students are required to bring their own recess and lunch for the day and the canteen will be available as normal. We ask that students apply sunscreen at the start of the day, wear a hat as well as enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle for the day. If you are available to help out at the carnival, please let Matilda Kehl know.
Recently we have had some of our students engaging in play that is not age appropriate. It seems the children are re-enacting videos or a game they have watched or played online. We have reminded students that these types of games are not appropriate to be playing at school. We ask all parents/carers to be aware of their children’s online activities and ensure parental controls are enacted on devices used by children.
We hope you have been enjoying the new canteen menu. Just a reminder that special meals (including hot meals) are only available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please check the whiteboard at the canteen for what is available each of these days. As you can appreciate we cannot guarantee what we have available week to week as this all depends on what supplies are available in town. Also, toasties and sandwiches are only available for lunch and not recess. We are not supplying fruit boxes anymore as part of the canteen menu. Thank you to all the parents and carers who have been keeping their canteen accounts in credit.
This week we look forward to the year one class presenting their assembly item at our Friday assembly. Year one parents only, are invited to attend the assembly at 1.20pm in the library.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
Miss Gabby
Principal
The Year 4/5 students have been using Minecraft to create a garden design for the space behind the classroom. This was our first attempt at designing our garden plan but we are excited to share the potential layout. We are very lucky to have Mandy from the Community Garden assisting with the project.
This is what Milton and Anthony have to share about the project.
The year 4/5s will design a pretty garden on Minecraft.
The garden will have colourful plants, behind our classroom.
We will do weeding and raking and have plenty of fun.
We will do it as a class to learn to work together and create a better community.
Mr Steve
Year 4/5 Teacher
~ Keep your eyes peeled for something exciting we have planned ~
