Term 2, Week 1
Principal's Piece
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you had a blessed Easter and a refreshing and relaxing holiday. We have enjoyed welcoming back our students this week and seeing our classes grow each day! Each day this week we have come together as a whole school (virtually) to continue our Easter liturgies and celebrations. This week the year 5\6, 4\5 and Year 3 classes have all led us in prayer as they have shared with us the stories of the Resurrection, Doubting Thomas, Road to Emmaus and Breakfast on the beach.
This term we welcomed back to our school Melina Johnson who has been employed as a Teaching Assistant in the Year One classroom for the remainder of the year. Ena Hopgood will be finishing up at our OSHC on the 6th of May and we thank her for all her work during her time with us and wish her and her family well on their new adventure. The Nominated Supervisor position has been advertised on Seek and through local platforms. If you or someone you know is interested in working at the OSHC please get in contact with me.
The school is still actively looking for members for the School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parents and Friends (P&F) Committee. If you have been thinking about joining and are unsure, please come and have a talk with me and I can tell you what is involved with the various positions. Our school relies heavily on the contribution of the SAC and P&F and we can’t have these if we don’t have parents volunteering.
This Saturday we are hoping to have a Busy bee to prepare the gardens for our classes to begin planting. The Busy Bee will run from 7am to 10am and all parents/ carers/ friends of the school are welcome to come down and lend a hand. We would also very happily accept a donation of pea hay to help stop the weeds growing. Many hands make light work so hopefully we will see you on Saturday!
Thank you to our students who represented our school at the local ANZAC celebrations on Monday. Thank you to Ava Baker, Charmaine and Hollie Lewis and Grace and Olivia McPhee-Herbert and their families for attending the ceremonies and laying a wreath on the school’s behalf. We will be having our own ANZAC Day Assembly next week.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

NAPLAN TESTING
Dear Parents/Guardians,
NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and numeracy.
This term St Joseph students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be participating in the National Naplan test, which will be held across Australia on May 10th, 11th and 12th. Our teachers have been working hard to make sure all students are prepared for Naplan for 2022. We look forward to our students participating in this year's testing. .
Please keep these dates in mind for your child's attendance at St Joseph's as we move towards Naplan in Week 3 of the school calendar. As always if you have any questions about Naplan or would like to discuss your child's involvement in the test, please contact the school and ask to speak to Shaun Joseph or please have a look at the link below to find further information.
