2022 Term 1, Week 10
Principal's Piece
Dear Parents/Carers
It’s hard to believe Term 1 is almost done and dusted! The time really has flown. We are proud of our students, how they settled into school and the routine of learning and most recently how they adapted and coped with the changes that have been imposed on them. We have worked hard on developing students’ understanding of and ability to follow our Be Respectful and Follow Directions BOABS. Each week at our BOAB prize draws we have celebrated all the good behaviour that happens at our school.
We have enjoyed learning, praying and reflecting on the events of Easter Week during our morning liturgies. So far we have learnt about Palm Sunday, the Last Supper and the Washing of the Disciples’ feet. On Friday we are reminded to wear dark or black clothing as we mark Good Friday at school and share in sorry time at Jesus’ death. We would love you to ask your children about the different Easter stories and which one they most enjoyed learning about. This Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday with a special service at St Vincent Pallotti church at 8:30am. All are welcome. We will commence by gathering outside the front of the Church in recognition of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem before the Last Supper. Thank you to Miss Bec and the Year 4/5 students who organised an Easter Egg Hunt at school to fundraise for Project Compassion. It was great fun watching and joining in with the children as they searched the school for plastic Easter eggs. Well done to the winners of the Easter raffle. 1st Prize for the raffle, a whole washing basket full of chocolate, went to Troy Ahwon. 2nd prize went to Lida Fourie and 3rd price went to Alexis Mann, and 4th prize to Hugh O'Brien.
We have postponed the Year 2 assembly item that was scheduled for this Friday’s assembly to next term due to low numbers in our classes.
In the interest of student safety the Year 3 class moved to remote learning due to increasing COVID numbers in that class. Thank you to all the Year 3 parents/carers for their support as we made this decision.
Students return to school on Tuesday 26th April for the start of Term 2 and are encouraged to wear brightly coloured clothing (no uniforms) to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the joy of the Easter season. Our school closure days for Term 2 are scheduled for June 2nd and 3rd. We will host our first Busy Bee of the year on Saturday 30th April from 7am so please mark this date in your diaries. We would like to get all our garden beds ready for students to plant. Thanks to the Year 1 class and Year 4/5 class who have already started preparing the gardens.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents/carers for their support this year and wish you all a safe and Happy Easter.
Miss Gabby
Principal

Year 3 News
The Year 3 Class has made extensive progress this year. It has been a pleasure to watch each and every one of them bloom in their own way. I enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday with the students as we cooked and flipped our own pancakes! It was with so much fun teaching the actions to Kungfu Punctuation that Miss Elle suggested we show it off by demonstrating it for our assembly item.
Most of all, it has been amazing watching the students grow in confidence during our group sessions for literacy and numeracy. I have been taking small groups to consolidate phonological awareness to improve spelling and other groups to work on calculations in maths. It is really commendable to see the growth in development in these learning areas. I look forward to another term ahead of wonderful learning experiences.

NAPLAN TESTING
Dear Parents/Guardians,
On Thursday the 24th of March St Joseph's took part in the National Naplan practice test. This test took place to ensure that schools across Australia could effectively run Naplan in May of 2022. The practice test went very smoothly at St Joseph's with no technical difficulties across the school.
The actual Naplan test for 2022 will take place across the country on May 10, 11 and 12th. We look forward to our students participating in this year's Naplan testing.
As always if you have any questions about Naplan or would like to discuss your child's involvement in the test, please contact the school and ask to speak to Shaun Joseph or please have a look at the link below to find further information. to

BUSY BEE
Hi All
We will be having a Busy Bee on the first week of school on Saturday from 7am.
The Parents and Friends Committee is a very small group at present and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage families to participate. Our school community is such a big part of our children's worlds and being an active part of this community allows us to support and create a learning environment our children thrive within. It is not a big time commitment but it is an important one. We hope to see as many who can make it at the Busy Bee so we can grow our outdoor spaces as a central place of learning for our children.
We are so proud of our school and the staff that give their whole, awesome selves to our children. Let's show the school our support by showing up.
