2021 Term 4, Week 8

December 2, 2021

Principal's Piece

Dear Friends and Families

We have had a wonderful week at school. On Monday Year 2/3 led us in a lovely liturgy for the 3rd Week of Advent. Their confidence and reverence was to be commended. Mr Jamie shared with us some more stories about the important people in the Nativity story and we look forward to next week when we hear the story about Jesus’ birth.

Our water play afternoon for Catholic Mission fundraiser was an amazing success. Thank you to Sr Julianne and the Kununurra Fire Brigade for supplying the water for the afternoon. The students had great fun lining up their coins and measuring their lines. We were overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity in being able to raise over $400 for Catholic mission, so thank you again.

This Friday we look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students at our End of Year Awards Assembly. This will begin at 8am in the library and all families are welcome to attend. Each Year level (not class) will have three awards, Academic Achievement, Academic Endeavour and Christian Living Award. The Academic Achievement award goes to someone who has excelled in all areas of learning consistently throughout the school year. The Academic Endeavour award goes to a student who has persevered and worked diligently with all their learning throughout the school year. The Christian Living Award is given to a student who embodies the ‘spirit of Jesus’. The specialist teachers will also present awards for outstanding performance in their specialist subjects. There is a Mary Mackillop Award that is given to one student who does as Mary did and ‘never see a need without doing something about it’ and then the final whole-school award is the ‘Ray of Sunhine’ for a student who brings joy to those around them everyday. Miss Deb will also have special awards for the Mini Vinnies students.

On Friday our students will transition to their classrooms for next year. They will spend time in their new class and have recess in their new play area. Unfortunately staffing for next year is still to be finalised so the focus of this transition will be on students feeling comfortable in their new environment.

We invite all Families to join us on Monday 6th December for our Thanksgiving and Graduation celebration. Mass will begin in the library at 8:30am followed by Graduation. We will also farewell staff and any families leaving at the end of the year.

You may have seen several job advertisements for positions at our School next year. Currently we are seeking a Teaching Assistant, Part-time Administration Officer and Canteen Manager. Please enquire at the office if you would like any more information about these positions.

As the year draws to an end I would like to encourage families with outstanding school fees to please make payment as soon as possible. These fees are a valuable contribution to the school and will allow our school to continue to be adequately resourced.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

I would like to thank The Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group for donating $400 towards the postage of satchels, Margaret Dearlove and the Currimundi Craft Group for knitted toys and clothing, St Vincent de Paul Caloundra’s Kathy Townsend President and Pat Cummins Kawana, Bev Swindells for donations of clothes and a generous donation of socks from a High School in Queensland.

A big thank you to the Sunshine Charity Sewing Group who make the beautiful sewn clothes for our school children and the community. Special thanks to Jean and her team.

A heartfelt thanks to a group that call themselves “The Oldies”. Jenny Cronin and her team are only 90 years young and donate various goods, toys and clothes to us in Kununurra and groups in the Northern Territory. Thanks to our previous Deputy Principal Mrs Laura Christopher for handmade quilted rugs and clothes for new borns. Kununurra Neighbourhood house is always helping out with shoes, socks, cutlery and anything else we need for the community. One last thanks to Miss Di our school secretary for collecting and delivering the parcels.

The Christmas hampers will be delivered on the Wednesday 8th December from 8.15am. So please send some food and Xmas treats to fill up the hampers.

Thanks to the community, students and parents for your help and donations.

God bless.

Miss Deb, Mini Vinnies Coordinator
