2021 Term 4, Week 7
Principal's Piece
Dear Friends and Families
This week we marked the second week of Advent which focuses on Peace. The Year 5/6 class led us in a lovely liturgy which set the tone for the week. Sr Julianne and Mr Jamie have continued to share with us messages of Advent and how we, too, can be people who prepare the way of the Lord through our good choices and by our repentance when we fail to make good choices. The season of Advent is a time when we focus on making good choices so that we have made ourselves ready to receive Jesus when he comes.
This week we began whole school practises for our Christmas concert and you will all be in for a real treat. We have another whole school practise this Thursday at the Leisure Centre. I hope you have marked December 8th in your diary. Reminder that this year seating will be provided and there will be no food available and we request you do not bring your own.
Last week I travelled to Broome for the Kimberley Principal Network days. This was an opportunity to meet with colleagues and CEWA staff from both the Broome and Perth offices. The days including information on mandatory vaccinations and education, ecology in schools based on Pope Francis’ Laudato Si, school planning for 2022, system-wide plans for Kimberley schools in 2022 including literacy and induction support. We also had the opportunity to meet—albeit virtually - Bishop Michael Morrissey Bishop of Geraldton, Apostolic Administrator to the diocese of Broome. Bishop Michael spoke passionately about his role and was interested in getting to know each of the 13 schools in the Broome diocese and is looking forward to having the opportunity to visit each school next year.
You may have spotted a new water fountain outside the year 1 classroom. Miss Di was able to secure us a Department of Primary Industries grant that covered the costs of this new fountain. The grant also paid for the upgrade of the garden beds Year 2 have been utilising. If you haven’t been to school lately to have a look at the garden it is well worth it. Year 2 have managed to grow sunflowers that are nearly taller than the classroom, a vibrant basil bush and corn that tastes delicious.
This Friday we will hold our Water Play afternoon to fundraise for Catholic Mission. Students are encouraged to bring in coins to earn themselves time for water play. Parents are welcome to join us for the fun on Friday after lunch.
We have had to change the time for our End of Year Awards assembly scheduled for Friday 3rd December to 8am. Please join us in the library to acknowledge the success of our students throughout this year.
This year we will send out digital copies of Semester 2 reports, in line with our efforts to minimise our environmental footprint. At the end of Week 9 reports will be emailed to all families for whom we have an email address. If you require a printed copy please make a request through the front office.

A note about next year: Pre-Primary to Year 6 students return to school for 2022 on Monday 31st January and Kindy students return Tuesday 1st February.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Miss Gabby
Principal
