Principal's Piece

Dear Friends and Families

This week we have launched into Book Week. On Monday we had a display on the front lawn to get students excited as they arrived and after lunch they completed the first of their Book Week Rotation activities. This afternoon we look forward to some story telling at our first Stories under the Stars event from 5pm; we hope to see you there. Friday is our Book Parade and students are encouraged to come as their favourite book character. We will have a parade at 8.30am on Friday morning in the lunch shed.

Thank you to Emma Walker who helped me create the tyre mound at our P&F Busy Bee last Saturday. We were very lucky to have some visitors to the Convent complete the job for us, so thank you to both the Beard and Pickles families for volunteering their time. We look forward to seeing how the students interact in this new space.

We have welcomed back some YWAM volunteers over the last two weeks. This is their second visit this year and we have enjoyed having them help out in our classrooms. In addition, they will work with our student leaders this week on developing their leadership skill set. During their leadership workshop the school leaders will review the Student Code of Conduct and how the student voice can continue to be captured at St Joseph’s.

Next week we look forward to celebrating Fathers and all the special men in our children's lives with a special Father's Day Footy Match on Friday 3rd September. Come down to the school oval at 1pm on Friday afternoon for a Students versus Dads match. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite footy colours on this day for a gold coin donation.

Just a reminder that our Climate survey is now open for parent/carer feedback, please go to www.NSIPartnerships.com.au and enter the code SJKPACS. This is a great opportunity to have your say about St Joseph's, what is working well and what you would like to see happening. The data from this survey is used to inform whole school planning and identify areas for school improvement. There are paper copies of the survey available at the front office if you are unable to complete the survey online. Thanks in advance for your participation.

Have a great week.

Book Week

This week is Book Week, a time to celebrate reading throughout the school with fun activities like our Book Week parade, the Book Fair and lots of other exciting activities related to reading and a love of books. The Book Fair is in the Library and families can purchase books from 2.00-2.30pm daily. Students can also buy books during their class visit to the Library. If you would like to send some money with your children, the classroom teacher will be available to collect it and supervise the purchase of books during class sessions.

St Joseph’s Student Code of Conduct

The St Joseph’s Student Code of Conduct was developed by the students of St Joseph’s. Students participated in Steps 1 to 4 during Term 1 2021. Step 5 was worked through during term 2 and Step 6 completed during Term 3. The Student Code of Conduct was reviewed by students in Year 3 to 6 on two separate occasions. The Student Code of Conduct was shared with the wider school community during Term 3.

The Spirit of the Arts Festival, a communal celebration of The Arts across Catholics schools in WA, is happening in September. We have the opportunity to participate through recording a video clip, of our unique location and our students singing the song Faith in the Future, to be shown at the festival in Perth. This video acts as inspiration for the concept:

https://vimeo.com/554647912. With the lyrics (see right), please encourage students to enjoy practising the song at home. It will be a great achievement for the students to feel good about!

Thank you for your support in this project.

You’re Welcome!

Our school gates are often closed for reasons of student safely, but that doesn’t mean you’re not welcome. Just lift the latch at the top of the pedestrian gate and come on in.

From the start of Term 3 the double gates off Coolibah Drive will be padlocked. Please come in through the pedestrian gate on Ironwood Drive.

COVID Update - Unwell Children

Students who are unwell should stay home. Parents are asked to seek medical advice if their child exhibits symptoms of COVID-19. Normal processes for advising the school of a child’s absence will apply.

Social Justice Sunday

We celebrate Social Justice Sunday on the 29th of August. The Australian Bishops’ Social Justice Statement, Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor, invites us to join in responding to Pope Francis’ invitation to take a seven-year journey towards total ecological sustainability guided by seven Laudato Si’ Goals. The Statement provides theological foundations to ground and inspire our efforts to care for creation while responding to the needs of the disadvantaged and excluded.
