Principal's Piece

Dear Friends and Families

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable time spending time with friends and family. We look forward to the term ahead as there are lots of exciting things planned.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Leigh Pindan to the role of Playgroup Support Worker at AFAFE and to the St Joseph’s team. Leigh is working part-time until the end of the year. Late last term Rebecca Exell came on board as a Teacher Assistant. She is working with the Year 4/5 class for the remainder of 2021. We love having Bec as part of our team and look forward to working with her over the next two terms. Desma Mengil joins us again this term as a Teacher Assistant and will be working in the Pre-Primary team for Term 3. She is also the incredible artist behind our new mural at the front of the school (see below).

Over the last few months there have been lots of changes to our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Centre. Joy McInnes has been working tirelessly in her role as Nominated Supervisor and with the support of Educational Leader Ena Hopgood there have been many improvements to our service. Late last term we welcomed another permanent member to the OSHC team, Melita Bin Busu. If you are interested in working at our OSHC or enrolling your child you can find the OSHC contact details on our school website.

The 2021 St Joseph’s Athletics carnival is scheduled for Friday 30th July and we look forward to our parents joining us on the day. We are seeking volunteers to help mark out the lines on the oval on either Wednesday 28th or Thursday 29th July; if you are available please see Mrs Kehl asap. If left to one person this is an incredibly big task and we hope that with some additional help we can complete this job more efficiently. Thank you in advance for your support.

A reminder that canteen accounts need to be kept in credit to book down orders. Cash and eftpos payments are accepted. If you would like Centrepay deductions set up for the canteen please see Eileen Watkins.

Winners of the NAIDOC 2021 colouring competition were announced at our Closing Ceremony on the last day of Term 2. Congratulations to Camille Cox who was awarded 1st prize, Mounira Rosewood 2nd prize and Quade Storer 3rd prize. We were overwhelmed with the number of wonderful entries we received.

School fees will be re-issued shortly to families who have not yet paid in full. All fees should be paid by the end of Term 3. Please make a time to see me to discuss your individual circumstances if you are experiencing financial hardship.

Code of Conduct 11 - You act reflectively and ethically.

Have a great week.

Miss Gabby

Principal

You’re Welcome!

Our school gates are often closed for reasons of student safely, but that doesn’t mean you’re not welcome. Just lift the latch at the top of the pedestrian gate and come on in.

From the start of Term 3 the double gates off Coolibah Drive will be padlocked. Please come in through the pedestrian gate on Ironwood Drive.

Update your phone number and emergency contacts

If you change your phone number, please tell us. Please also provide us with any changes to your emergency contacts. We many need to ring you or your emergency contact if your child is sick or doesn’t get picked up after school.

COVID Update - Unwell Children

Students who are unwell should stay home. Parents are asked to seek medical advice if their child exhibits symptoms of COVID-19. Normal processes for advising the school of a child’s absence will apply.

See the CEWA Website for further information: https://covid19.cewa.edu.au/covid-19-response-210207/

Social Justice Sunday

We celebrate Social Justice Sunday on the 29th of August. The Australian Bishops’ Social Justice Statement, Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor, invites us to join in responding to Pope Francis’ invitation to take a seven-year journey towards total ecological sustainability guided by seven Laudato Si’ Goals. The Statement provides theological foundations to ground and inspire our efforts to care for creation while responding to the needs of the disadvantaged and excluded.
