2021 Term 2, Week 8
Principal's Piece
Dear Families and Friends
We hope you enjoyed the extra long weekend! Thank you to all the families for your understanding in picking sick children up from school and keeping them home for the required exclusion period. Hopefully with the mini break from school we will now get on top of these illnesses and stop them spreading throughout the school.
As a school staff we are continually reflecting on how we do things and looking for ways of improving our professional practice. A key way of doing this is engaging in ongoing professional development. Recently Tanya travelled to Wyndham to work with the Kindy / Pre-Primary teacher from St Joseph’s and then Tanya received a reciprocal visit from the Wyndham teacher. The focus of this professional development was on implementing more play-based learning opportunities in the Kindergarten classroom. This week we have Melinda Fitt back at school in her role as a Literacy Acquisition for Pre-Primary Students consultant, where she is supporting staff across both the Pre-Primary and Year 1 classrooms. On this visit she is focusing on the Aboriginal Teaching Assistants and how they can scaffold our students who come from an Aboriginal English speaking background. David has travelled to Broome this week to attend the Religious Education Network meetings. Along with other RE Coordinators from schools across the Kimberley he will share and learn about how we can continue to expand our Religious Education program. This term Elle has also participated in professional development as part of her involvement with the CEWA Student and Staff Wellbeing project. In Week 10 Tianna, Kimberley and Emma will travel to Broome for a week of study with the University of Notre Dame. At the start of Term 3 all staff will participate in Team Teach training led by the CEWA School Psychologists.
Just a reminder the Scholastic Book Fair is on from 2.00-2.30pm this week until next Tuesday 15th June.
The Sacrament of First Reconciliation and Eucharist will be celebrated on Sunday 13th June. Tylen Johnson, a St Joseph's student, and two other students from East Kimberley College with be making their sacraments. We invite all our students and their family to be part of this celebration.
On Sunday we celebrated Corpus Christi Sunday. Corpus Christi is a celebration of thanksgiving for Gods hospitality to us. It is the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. The celebration of the Eucharist is the great festival of the church, the centre from which all grace flows. We bring to it all the possibilities, desires and longings of our existence. To have time for God and give ourselves to him is an important expression of our faith.

You’re Welcome!
Our school gates are often closed for reasons of student safely, but that doesn’t mean you’re not welcome. Just lift the latch at the top of the pedestrian gate and come on in.
