2021 Term 2, Week 6
Principal's Piece
Dear Families and Friends
This week our Youth With a Mission Broome volunteers continued to help out in and around the school. The students are loving the extra attention and help they are getting in the classroom. This week some of the volunteers will run a leadership workshop with our Year 5/6 leaders and will also be putting on a live performance at recess time showcasing how to use our own gifts and talents.
As you are probably aware there are lots of illnesses going around town and now our school. To keep everyone safe and healthy please continue to practise good hygiene with regular, thorough hand washing. If you are sick or your child is sick please stay home from school. The Department of Health WA website provides information on exclusion periods for communicable diseases; if you are unsure whether to send your child to school or not please consult this webpage for further information: https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Communicable-disease-guidelines
Semester 1 reports will go home in Week 11 of this term for students in Pre-Primary to Year 6. They are a culmination of the learning that has happened over Term 1 and the first half of Term 2. The reports will provide an overview of your child's learning across all learning areas. Kindergarten students and their family will get the opportunity to review their Kindy Portfolios and hear about their learning at a parent/teacher session in Week 10 of this term.
We will have assembly outside again this Friday so all parents/carers are welcome to attend. We look forward to hearing and seeing what the Pre-Primary students have been learning about.
We will celebrate NAIDOC Week in Week 11 of this term. The theme for this year is “Heal Country”. Our ATAs and TAs have begun planning for this week and we look forward to sharing the program with you soon. This week the students will be invited to participate in a colouring competition with winners announced during NAIDOC Week.
Each week this term I have included a Code of Conduct statement in our newsletter as a way of informing our parents and wider school community of the minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making that takes place at St Joseph's School. As the Principal of the school I expect all members of the school community to conduct themselves personally and professionally in a way that maintains public trust and confidence in the school. Any breaches of the Code of Conduct must be brought to the attention of the Principal where priority is always given to an outcome that will be in the best interests of the safety and well-being of the child. With that in mind I ask that if you have a concern or you hear something out in the community that is worrying you please come in and speak with me so that further clarification can be made.
Code of Conduct Statement 5 - "You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community."
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Miss Gabby
