Principal's Piece

Dear Families and Friends

We have had lots happening in the school this last week. Firstly thank you to the women who came along to our first Mother’s Day Basketball game, we all had lots of fun and we hope you did too! Thank you to the families and staff who came to our Busy Bee last weekend. The gardens are looking good and ready for our students to start planting. We also managed to spread some fresh white sand around the playground to make it safer. On Monday we had a visit from the Royal Australian Navy which was very informative and plenty of fun.

We look forward to the Cross Country this Friday and welcome our parents to come along and support their children. There is a change in the start time for this event; we will now begin at 8am with Kindy running first. We will provide a sausage sizzle for students at the conclusion of the carnival. Food for non-school aged siblings and parents will need to be supplied by families. Parents will not be able to purchase food from the school canteen during this event, but recess and lunch orders will be available as normal. We need parent volunteers to help us out on the day, in particular setting up before school at 7am, marshalling along the course, cooking the sausage sizzle and packing up after school at 2pm. If you are available to help please inform Mrs Kehl, matilda.kehl@cewa.edu.au

Cross Country Timetable

  • Kindy-Yr 2: 8-9am

NAPLAN began this week for our students in Year 3 and 5. We wish all our students the best as they undertake these tests over the next two weeks.

In Week 5 we will be participating in a project with the Language Nest and ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority). Language lessons for the Year 2/3, 4/5 and5/6 classes will be filmed during this time. Some students and teachers will also be interviewed about the language lessons and their experiences learning Miriwoong. Thank you to those families who have already returned their permission notes.

Code of Conduct Statement 3: “We act in accordance with the values of the Gospel as defined in the Code of Ethical Conduct.”

Enjoy the rest of your week!

School Athletics Carnival, Friday 30th July, Week 2, Term 3

MacqLit

This term we are happy to have taken on more students for the MacqLit program, which provides accelerated literacy support. This term MacqLit is running four groups instead of three to accommodate the increase in numbers. We are very pleased with the data from the program and are celebrating that nearly all students passed their assessments at the end of last term and have consequently moved onto the next level. We welcome Miss Deb back into the team to assist us.

MacqLit is an evidence-based program targeted at assisting students to read. It provides teachers with a comprehensive sequence of lessons that includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

If you would like to know more about the MacqLit program, please contact me.
