2021 Term 1, Week 9

Principal's Piece

Dear Parents and Carers

I can’t believe we are at the end of Term 1 already! What an amazing start to the year we have had at St Joseph’s School. Students have settled in well to their new classes and have established routines and positive attitudes towards their learning. I have been so impressed with what kind, friendly and hardworking students we have at this school. I can’t wait to see what each student achieves as the year progresses.

The last few weeks have been busy with lots of extra activities. Thank you to all the parents and students who have contributed to making these extra activities happen. So far for Project Compassion we have had a Bake Sale, Crazy Hair Day and are looking forward to finishing the term off with Slime the Teacher and a black clothing free dress day this Thursday. Thank you to everyone who generously donated to fundraising for Project Compassion this year.

We have implemented a few changes this week that we believe will better fulfil our duty of care on the playground during recess and lunch. On the main playground we now have three staff members on duty at all times. This will ensure students are better supervised as they move through the different spaces on the playground. We will also be introducing Healthy Eating Time each day, in which students eat lunch in their classrooms under staff supervision. This will be a time to practise social skills, emphasise the importance of manners and provide the opportunity to discuss healthy eating choices. This will give students time to eat their lunch before they feel the pressures of running off to play. Staff will be able to monitor eating habits more closely and make sure students are providing their bodies with the necessary fuel to continue with their learning and playing.

Those students who catch the school bus will have been given a bus note re-establishing the eligibility criteria for the school bus run. If you have not seen this note and require the bus for your child please contact the school office.

We have had a wonderful time coming together this week as a whole school community and reflecting on the events of Holy Week. So far students have heard the story of Palm Sunday, The Last Supper and the Garden of Gethsemane. Tomorrow we will hear about the events of Good Friday.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a safe and relaxing holiday. May the blessings of Easter bring you joy and peace. We look forward to welcoming you all back after the holidays on Tuesday 20th April, with students invited to wear bright clothes to celebrate Easter.
