Term 3, Week 8
Principal's Piece
Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you for all your support for our Book Week Parade last Friday. We have some very talented students and families as the costumes that were present at school were outstanding. We were all blown away by the creativity and innovation on display during our Parade. Congratulations to everyone involved and especially to our best dressed winners for each grade. Thanks to all the staff who went out of their way to ensure every student was included in the parade and had an opportunity to wear a costume if they wanted to.
It has been great to welcome volunteers from Youth with a Mission (YWAM) this week. They have spent time in classrooms supporting students and teachers. Thank you to Mr Jamie for coordinating this visit once again. Also, this week Year 3 and Year 5/6 visited the Language Nest as part of their Indigenous Literacy Day activities. It was great to be involved in their celebrations and we appreciated the invitation.
Next week we look forward to welcoming students and staff from St Norbert’s College. St Norbert’s have been visiting Kununurra for some time and we look forward to getting to show them our beautiful school and wonderful students. We will also be celebrating Science Week at St Joseph’s. Miss Tanya has been busy organising our activities and all classes are looking forward to building their own marble runs next Tuesday and Wednesday. If you would like to know more, please speak to Miss Tanya.
This Friday the Year 1 class will be presenting their assembly item to the whole school. Year 1 parents are invited to attend our whole school assembly at 1.20pm in the Library. I was lucky enough to have a sneak preview last week and you are all in for a treat!
Next week there will be no canteen on Wednesday the 14th of September. Please send your child to school with recess and lunch on this day.
Thank you to those families who have returned their Kindy 2023 enrolment forms. Just a reminder that enrolments are still open and if you have a Kindy child or know someone who is eligible for Kindy 2023 please encourage them to come and pick up an enrolment pack from the front office.
This was my first week working remote and I wanted to thank all the staff for their continued support of all students at our school. I am still available via phone and email for the rest of the term if you need to speak with me.
Season of Creation
Each year from September 1 to October 4, the Christian family unites for this worldwide celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home. As followers of Christ from around the globe, we share a common call to care for creation. We are co-creatures, and part of all that God has made. Our wellbeing is interwoven with the wellbeing of the Earth. We rejoice in this opportunity to safeguard our common home and all beings who share it.
This year, the theme for the season is Listen to the Voice of Creation. More resources,
including webinars and prayer services, a Facebook page, and photos, are available online.
Please visit SeasonOfCreation.org to access all the materials.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Term 3 in Year 5/6
We were very fortunate to have an excursion to Manjibim Farm last week! This excursion tied in well with HASS as well as our Literacy. This term in Geography we are learning about the way we use land for producing food and goods, from a traditional and contemporary perspective. At Manjibim farm, Mat and Mary showed us the cotton and corn plantations and we got to see the machines harvesting. They taught us many interesting facts and when we returned to school we compared rice, cotton and corn production. In Business and Economics we have been learning about different businesses in town and how they can be classified as primary, secondary and tertiary industries. We applied this knowledge to further understand businesses in Kununurra to help us create our own business ideas!
We have been investigating different ways to solve mathematical problems and are all showing improvements in this. In Literacy we have finished writing our own narrative and are now learning about reviews. We applied our literacy skills even while on camp recently as we recounted each day's events. While on the Year 5/6 camp we participated in abseiling, canoeing and other teambuilding activities alongside cooking and sharing stories!

Exciting Lessons in Year 1
Last week students we were lucky to have Mr. Clive come and visit us again. This time he showed us some amazing seeds and plants, and we explored how seeds spread. We also got to play music with seed pods.
