Message & Notifications From The Principal
Dear Families and Friends
Last Friday staff, students, parents and carers participated in our opening school liturgy held in the Library. Thank you to Mr David Ballingall for organising this celebration for our school community.
We also had the opportunity to have a question and answer session with representatives from the Fremantle Dockers Football Club. It was terrific listening to the players convey their messages of resilience and perseverance in order to get to accomplish what they have been able to during their football careers.
Thank you to the staff and students who attended the Sacramental Commitment Ceremony and Staff Commissioning Mass led by Fr Joel last Sunday.
Student Leaders
A number of students in Years 4, 5 & 6 are currently practising leadership speeches that they will deliver to their peers and teachers this week. We wish these students all the best. Announcements about our 2020 Head Boy, Head Girl, Faction Captains, Student Councillors, Mini Vinnies and Bluearth Leaders will be made at our Friday assembly beginning 1:20pm.
AGM
Tonight we will hold our AGM. School Board and P & F positions for 2020 will be announced in next week's newsletter.
We are now looking for a parent representative for each class. Please talk to myself or your child's class teacher for more information.
Teaching Induction
Mrs Laura Christopher, Mr Luke Roberts and Mr Matthew Absalom will spend next week in Broome for their Kimberley teaching induction. We trust that they will find this a worthwhile professional experience and we look forward to their return for the beginning of Week 4.
Friday Free Dress
To say thank you for their great start to the school year, there will be a special surprise for children who attend school this Friday! It will also be a casual dress day. We ask students to bring a gold coin which will be donated to Caritas.
Swimming
Swimming will commence for students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 on Monday 16th March. A permission note will be sent home with students over the coming weeks. To attend these sessions, students must return their signed note to their classroom teacher.
Parent and Carers Afternoon Tea and Information Sessions
Please join us for afternoon tea at 2.00pm on Thursday 13th February, on the front lawn. Following afternoon tea, we will conduct our Information Sessions.
- · Kindy, PP and Gifted and Talented sessions: 2:30pm-3:00pm
- · Years 1-3 sessions: 3:00pm-3:30pm
- · Years 4-6 sessions: 3:30pm-4:00pm
We have organised the timetable such that parents can attend multiple sessions if required.
Teachers will outline some of the specific programs in their classrooms and inform you about important dates for the year ahead. Should you have any queries or concerns about your child, we ask that you make a separate time to meet with your child's classroom teacher. If you are unable to attend, please make arrange another time to see your child's teacher.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

Pre-Primary News
Pre-Primary have had a wonderful start to the year. The students have been busy settling into their new classroom and trying out all the different play areas. Play based learning enables children to explore, discover, negotiate, take risks, create meaning and solve problems – all the important foundations for developing literacy, numeracy and social skills. Play based learning capitalises on children’s natural sense of inquiry and discovery through hands-on exploration of the world around them. In Pre-Primary we aim to embed elements of teaching and learning within the play experiences that children are interested in and naturally drawn to – and therefore are more likely to remain engaged with. For our integrated studies unit on ‘Identity’ the students will set goals and give a short presentation about objects in their 'Identity Container'. They will learn about the identity of other students in the class as they create pictographs. They will also learn about 'Sometimes' foods and 'Always' foods and consider how they use their bodies. We will discuss how to get help in the classroom and in the schoolyard and how to use different objects safely. We are looking forward to a jam-packed term full of learning and fun! Miss Izzy
Year 5/6
It has been a very busy start to Term 1 in Year 5/6.
To start the year, we created our classroom rules. We worked together as a class to come up with five rules that we believe will create the best learning environment. We have also looked at the first impressions of our classroom, classmates, year level and the teacher.
The students have written a letter to themselves that they will open at the end of the year to see how much they have grown and if they have achieved the goals that they have set at the start of the year. To start the year, we have been busy writing a recount about our summer holidays focusing on the correct language that needs to be used.
