Dear Families and Friends
It is hard to believe that it is already Week 4! I am currently in Perth for the Leaders Forum - thank you to Mrs Laura Christopher for leading the school in my absence.

Lent
Lent provides us with the opportunity to reach out to others. Project Compassion is one way we can respond to the call from Pope Francis to consider those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We are looking for donations of easter eggs for our Easter Raffle prizes. When buying easter eggs, we ask that you consider buying chocolate that has a fair trade symbol. A link to these symbols can be found in the 'Reminders' and 'Lent' section below. Raffle tickets can be purchased from next week: $1 each or 3 for $2. Visit our friendly Year 5 & 6 students in the undercover area from 7:30am - 7:50am to support this worthy cause. On Fridays, icy-poles will be sold in the canteen to raise money for Project Compassion.
Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
Yesterday students enjoyed a pancake for Shrove Tuesday as we prepare ourselves for Lent. Thank you to Miss Kris in the canteen for preparing the batter and thanks also to the parents and carers who were able to provide assistance in our classrooms.
Today we had our Ash Wednesday Mass at school led by Fr Joel. Thank you to Mr Ballingall for organising this Mass for our school community and well done to the students who read so well.
Children's Safety
Some of our students are affected by food allergies, including anaphylactic reactions to nuts. Thank you for your support in ensuring nuts are not being sent with children's lunches. This includes Nutella and any snack bars containing nuts.
No School on Monday
A reminder that there will be no school this Monday 2nd March, the Labour Day Public Holiday.
Year 5 and 6 Camp Meeting
Our next Canberra Camp meeting will be held in the school library on Thursday 5th March beginning 5:00pm. It is important that all children in Years 5 or 6 attend this meeting with a parent or carer.
Thoughts and Prayers
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by the tragic event that took place in our community last weekend.
Parents and Friends Committee
Thank you to those parents and friends who have attended meetings and are assisting with preparations for our Quiz Night. The P & F will be meeting at 5pm next Tuesday 3rd March at the Kimberley Grande. All are most welcome to attend.
Enjoy the rest of your week.

Year One News
Our Year 1 class have had a fantastic start to this year! It's been great getting used to school routines and seeing our friendly classmates again. We have been learning about how we grow and change. In Humanities we have tried to grow some beans and we will make a timeline to show our life so far and predict milestones that we may achieve in our future. We will visit Juniper Aged Care Facility later this term to share stories with some community members.
Our recent Religious Education lesson linked well with Mathematics as we learnt about The Story of Creation using ordinal numbers. Here is a photo to show our drawings of each day.
We made healthy mini pizzas last week and plan to cook every second Friday to encourage collaboration, healthy eating, mathematic skills and literacy skills.

Kindergarten News
We have had a strong social, emotional and spiritual start to our school year, with the children connecting and contributing to our Kindy environment. We love sharing stories about our environment and how we care, share and be fair with our friends and nature. We have commenced our Community Garden Program and are learning about the Principles of Permaculture and how we have a responsibility to look after our world.
