2022 Term 1, Week 6
Principal's Piece
Dear Parents and Carers
We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful long weekend with your family. It was a lovely mini-break right in the middle of term. Some of you might be aware that there is a gastro bug going around town and our school. We were hoping the long weekend might be enough to stop it in its tracks but, if not, your child must stay home from school if they have any gastro symptoms and must not return for a further 48 hours following their last symptom.
We would like to hold the School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parents & Friends (P&F) AGM on Wednesday 16th March at 5pm. Both the SAC and the P&F groups do wonderful work to support our school. The SAC meet monthly to advise the Principal on a range of different areas and contribute an important parent voice on school decisions. The P&F meet at least once a term and assist with fundraising activities for the school as well as helping with small school improvements and upgrades, usually via a Busy Bee. All parents and carers are invited to attend the AGM to learn more about each group. Due to current COVID restrictions, the AGM will take place via TEAMS and you can use the following link to join the meeting:

This will also be sent out via Seesaw prior to the meeting.
Swimming began last week and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to the parents/carers who have paid their $15 swimming fees. This fee helps to cover the cost of entry to the pool for students. Apologies to the parents who received two different versions of the swimming note, this was an error on our part.
This Friday at 1.20pm we will have our whole school assembly online once again. A TEAMS link will be sent out via seesaw. Year 4/5 will present an item for the whole school to enjoy.
We welcomed Fr Joel back to Kununurra last week after he returned from his overseas trip to visit his family. It is great to have him here again and we look forward to celebrating mass with him on Sundays at 8.30am at St Vincent Pallotti Church.
We are now in the season of Lent until Easter. This is a time when Catholics focus on how we can forgive those who have wronged us and look at ways we can contribute to making the world a better place. In the next few weeks, the children will participate in fundraising activities to raise money for Project Compassion, which provides much-needed supplies to disadvantaged people in Australia and all over the world. We thank you in advance for your generous contribution.
Over the next few months I will be sharing the School's Code of Conduct in our newsletter. At the point of enrolment all parents/carers agree to follow school policies and procedures and this includes the Code of Conduct. All of these can be found on our school website. The Code of Conduct outlines the minimum standard of behaviour for all members of our school community, staff, parents and carers included. I ask that all parents/carers familiarise themselves with the Code of Conduct and ensure they understand what each of the guidelines means in terms of their relationship with the school.
Code of Conduct statement 1: We act safely and competently
Guidelines
1. We are expected to put the safety of students ahead of every other relevant but secondary consideration.
2. In doing so, we are expected to act within the scope of our expertise and role within the school community.
3. If the safety and well-being of a student requires skills and experience outside our core competency, we must refer the student to the appropriate expert.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
Miss Gabby
Principal

Saint Joseph’s Day and Project Compassion
The Feast of Saint Joseph, the patron of our school, is on March 19th. As this date is on the weekend, we will celebrate on Monday 21st March. There will be a liturgy before lunch, followed by class activities in the afternoon.
During Lent, we focus on helping others in need through Caritas Australia and Project Compassion. Every class has donation boxes for this cause. As a fundraiser, on Saint Joseph’s day (21st March), children are invited to:
- Wear casual clothes for a gold coin donation
- Bring 50c for an ice block
- Bring along cans to recycle.
Each class will line up their cans on the basketball court. The class with the longest line will have a special treat – movie afternoon with popcorn, and Project Compassion will get the cash for cans! It’s a WIN-WIN!!

St patrick's Quiz Night Update
and
Thank you to Our Past Sponsors
To Our Generous Quiz Night Sponsors
St Joseph’s school would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of St Patrick’s Day Quiz Night over the years. Due to the transition to High COVID Case Load Protocols we didn’t feel it was safe to continue with our plans for the Quiz night this year. Additionally we appreciate the ongoing stress of COVID on businesses and our community and don't wish to add to this by requesting donations this year.
Your support has meant we have been able to create an ongoing event that is so important to the running of our school within a community that we are passionate about supporting. Your positive contribution has allowed the school to run programs such as Mini Vinnies, Breakfast Club, purchase iPads and equipment that increases opportunities for learning and play both in the classroom and in our outdoor spaces.
Thank you for your generosity. Year after year we are humbled by your support. We hope that we can run the Quiz night again in 2023. In the meantime we wish you a prosperous and happy year.
Yours sincerely and gratefully
Gabby Franco on behalf of the P& F Group
