2021 Term 3, Week 8
Principal's Piece
Dear Friends and Families
Thank you to our parents and friends who came along to our Father’s Day Footy Match last Friday, I heard it was a great afternoon enjoyed by all. We look forward to continuing this as a tradition next year. This Thursday our students will participate in a whole school STEM challenge. It will be a fantastic opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills whilst working in partnership with others. On Friday our Year 4 students will travel to Lake Argyle for the day and then return to school to camp out for the night. We hope they enjoy this experience.
Sadly, Tianna Garlett will be finishing with us this Friday. After ten years of service to St Joseph’s Tianna is moving to Derby to take up another job opportunity. Tianna has made an invaluable contribution to the school community over the last decade and will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best in her new role.
Next week we welcome volunteer staff and students from St Norbert College in Perth. We look forward to having them help in our school and sharing their gifts and talents with us.

Last week we re-introduced the Fruit’n’Veg program for our students. We received a donation from St Mary Mackillop College in Busselton and have allocated some of the funds towards additional healthy food breaks. Each class is managing this break in their own way; for some the fruit’n’veg is available throughout the whole day, while for others there is a designated break. We look forward to hearing feedback from students and teachers about this program.
In Week 10 we will celebrate a whole week of wellbeing for students and staff. The week will focus on different strategies for self-care and how we can prioritise our own wellbeing. Parents and friends are invited to join us for a shared lunch on Thursday 23rd of September from 12.15pm, BYO food and picnic blanket. We will have a number of service providers in attendance showcasing different examples of mindfulness activities or strategies we can use to take care of ourselves. If you work for a service provider and are interested in getting involved, please contact Elle Tierney for more information. There will be no school for students on Friday 24th September as our teachers will be participating in a Staff Retreat.
Have a great week.

Thank you to all for your support towards creating our school video contribution to The Spirit of the Arts Festival in Perth later this month. We recorded multiple groups of students singing Faith in the Future, and are excited to be one of only seven schools that submitted a video, as a way of participating in the festival from a distance. Students really enjoyed the recording studio we set up in the library and were very professional in their approach.
Well done to you all - you were and are amazing!
