School Community

We actively encourage parent engagement in school and parish activities. Whether it’s attending a meeting, putting your hand up to cook some sausages or running a market stall, our school community wouldn’t be what it is without you. If you wish to find out more call us on (08) 9168 1079.
Parish of St Vincent Pallotti
The strong connection between our school and parish is very important to us.  At St Joseph's School we are supported by our Parish Priest, Fr Joel Nyongesa. Fr Joel is from Kenya and has been in Kununurra since 2011.

Each term we gather at St Vincent Pallotti Church for a whole school mass (click HERE for the parish website).  Each class will also celebrate either a Liturgy of the Word or Eucharistic celebration with the priests at school each term.  Parents and friends are always welcome to join us for these special services.

The school works closely with our Parish Priest as children prepare for sacramental celebrations in the parish throughout the year.

Fr Joel also provides assistance to staff, as required, with the delivery of Religious Education.

School Advisory Council

The School Advisory Council, in representing the Catholic school community, actively promotes and supports the Catholic ethos of the school.

At the beginning of each school year a Council is inducted and commissioned. Council members are supported by Catholic Education WA, and are given access to training and appropriate information courses. The Council meets once a month throughout the school year. The Council is responsible not only to our local school community, but also to the CEWA for the financial administration of the school. It is also entrusted with the duty of planning, on behalf of the school community, with the school staff (through the Principal) and with the CEWA to meet the present and future needs of students.

Taking on a position with the School Advisory Council is a wonderful way for parents to get involved and help shape their child’s school. In addition to the normal Executive roles, Councils also appoint a range of sub-committees, giving parents a chance to leverage their business acumen or other specialisations.

Parent & Friends Committee

It is safe to say that without the St Joseph's Parent and Friends Committee (P&F), the vast majority of school events would not take place. Fortunately the school enjoys an active P&F which provides an avenue for interaction and communication through social events and regular meetings. The P&F provides significant financial assistance for specialist equipment, professional development for teachers and learning initiatives. Importantly, the St Joseph's P&F also provides working parties and forums on issues of interest to parents.

Any parent or carer is more than welcome and is encouraged to join the P&F at any time during the school year. The committee is also a healthy forum in which ideas can be discussed on any relevant issue that will benefit the school.
