Message & Notifications From The Principal

Dear Families and Friends

Thank you to all families for following the signage about dropping off and picking up children at the front gate. I will keep you updated with further developments following the review of our current mode of learning on Monday 11th May.

Seesaw
Over the holidays we upgraded our School Seesaw account for every student. It has been terrific to see teachers using Seesaw not only as a digital learning portfolio, but to actively assist students with their learning at home and in the classroom. This has been achieved by teachers recording themselves delivering instructions which students then access for the given activity. They can review it as required. We look forward to further expanding our use of Seesaw, in a way that benefits both students and families. If you are yet to connect with your child’s Seesaw account, please contact with their classroom teacher.

Writing with Sam Scholes
Yesterday teachers engaged in professional learning via video with Kimberley Literacy Coordinator Sam Scholes. The focus of this session was assisting students to become more independent with their writing. Sam spoke about the importance of students feeling comfortable to make mistakes with their writing and then staff giving specific feedback regarding areas for improvement. We thank Sam for her time and we look forward to working with her over the remainder of the year.

P & F
Thank you to the P & F for the purchase of some new ICT and early years play equipment. A special thank you to Rowena Alexandra and Dominique Reeves for their generous contributions towards obtaining these resources which will be well utilised by our students. Stay tuned for photos once they have been delivered and are being used in the classrooms.

Playtime
With the playgrounds currently out of action at recess and lunch, many running games are being played during the breaks. Whilst it is terrific to see all children remaining active, it is important that they are not running on the concrete. This includes footpaths as well as the lunch shed area. All students are aware of this expectation as we aim to reduce the risk of possible accidents.

A Prayer for Mothers
Gracious God, you chose Mary to be the mother of your son Jesus Christ. As you blessed her through her Son, bless all mothers. Grant them patience, wisdom, strength and joy, so that they may care for and love the children you have given to them and placed in their care. Loving Father in heaven, we thank you for the mothers you have given us, whose commitment is so precious that it can never be measured. May we see your loving hand behind them and guiding them. We pray for those mothers who fear or who are in broken relationships, and ask you to bless them with your own special love and the gifts. We pray for children and fathers, that they may appreciate, love and support their mothers and wives.

We wish all Mothers and Special Women a happy Mother’s Day for this Sunday!

Change of Date
A reminder that the date for our Catholic Day is now Tuesday 2nd June (Following the WA Day holiday). Friday 29th May will be a normal school day.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Reminders

Thank you for your continued support of St Vincent  Pallotti Church during these difficult times.

In these unprecedented times we’re all being asked to change the way we work and live. Our tradition of putting books into the hands of kids isn’t going to change, but for Term 2, we're doing things a little differently.

Please click on the link below to find out more.

If your child requires prescription medication during the school day, a Student Medication Administration Request must be filled out by parents/carers. These are available from the office. We are unable to administer medications without a signed form, even if verbal permission is given over the phone or to the school bus driver.

Thank you.

Our Bus is Full!

Many more children are catching the St Joseph’s bus (and it’s fabulous to see them all coming to school), but that means we often have to do three bus runs before and after school. As a result, some children are starting school late or getting home quite late.

To alleviate this problem, please drive your child to school if you have a car and time allows.

This does not apply to the out-of-town or Lakeside buses.

Many thanks.

Pre-Primary News

Pre-Primary have eased back into Term 2 very well and are working through their flexible learning activity packs at home and school. This term we are learning about The Changing World. This involves considering change through the lens of Science, Geography and History. They will learn about how their community has changed over time, how the seasons change, and how living things change in order to survive. This unit will enable students to become more aware of changes in their lives and comprehend that change is all around us. They will appreciate why things change and what might change in the future. They will be come to appreciate how to use their senses to develop clearer understandings of the world. As with Literacy and Maths, the unit will incorporate play-based learning and hands-on experiences wherever possible. It is through play that young children engage and interact with the world around them. Play allows children to create and explore a world they can master and, as they do so, play supports children in developing new competencies that lead to enhanced confidence and the resiliency they will need to face future challenges. We are very excited to continue learning about and exploring the ever-changing world around us in Pre-Primary.

Year 5/6 News
Welcome back to Term 2. The Year 5/6 class has had a busy start working through their flexible learning packs. They have utilized their one-to-one iPads to access their learning on Seesaw, allowing parents and carers to also see their wonderful work.
The focus in Mappen this term is ‘Museum in Motion’. Throughout this unit we will explore the history of Australia and the past events and people that have helped make it the amazing country that it is today. Towards the end of the term we will be creating dioramas that represent one of the important events in Australian history.
This term in Year 5/6 the spotlight is on displaying our leadership skills. This has already been demonstrated by setting a good example in the playground, helping others at recess/lunch and making the right choices both in and out of the classroom.
