Dear Parents and Carers
Our final week of term has seen us finishing units of work, celebrating achievers with Reward activities and enjoying time together.
Congratulations to our students for pulling off a fantastic dance concert last Thursday evening - it was easy to see the children enjoyed performing for you and there was a fabulous buzz around the event. Thank you for coming out to support us.
As we move to the end of term, I would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to all who have lent us their support over the past ten weeks. We've worked hard learning new skills and enjoyed a number of events as a school community. Many things happen in the background to ensure the success of these activities, so thank you!
Now is the time to start planning for 2024. If you have a young one at home who is ready to start Kindy or Pre-Primary next year, please collect, complete and return enrolment forms to school as soon as possible. They are available from our office or you can find them on our website. This will help us to plan class groups and budgets.
We ask that you continue to monitor your children for illness. There is still a number of bugs around and we encourage you to take the right steps to limit their spread to reduce their impact on other families in our community.
The CEWA Quality Catholic Education Awards program is presently underway. Our Aboriginal Families as First Educators (AFaFE) program, the Ngoolgab-gerring Playgroup, has been nominated for an award in the Community Education section. There is an opportunity for us to vote in the People's Choice section of the Awards - I encourage everyone to vote for our Playgroup by going to the following link and selecting Ngoolgab-gerring Playgroup: https://awards.cewa.edu.au/vote/#community-link
It is noticeable that the weather has begun to shift towards the build up - everyone is looking a little tired! Take the time during our holiday break to recharge your batteries for Term 4. I trust that will be an opportunity to rest and reconnect with family and friends. To those who are travelling during the break, safe travels. To those having a staycation - enjoy the chance to be at home.
Our new term begins on Monday October 9.
Enjoy the break with your families.

Pre-Primary News
Allowing kids in the kitchen can be good for them in a number of ways. Cooking can help:
Build basic skills. Help build basic math skills by doing something as simple as counting eggs or pouring water into a measuring cup. You can ask what comes first, second and third or count together as you spoon dough onto a cookie sheet. When you read a recipe together, you introduce new words to your child's vocabulary and promote literacy. Following steps in the recipe can work on listening skills.
Encourage an adventurous palate. Children are picky eaters and introducing them to cooking can open them up to new tastes. Your young chef might sample dishes they wouldn't try if you just served them up at the table. So encourage kids to taste new ingredients while you're cooking and talk about what they like and how healthy foods make a body grow.
Help young kids explore with their senses. Kids learn by exploring with their senses and the kitchen is an ideal place to do that. Invite them to listen to the whir of the mixer, pound dough and watch it rise, smell it baking in the oven and finally taste the warm bread fresh from the oven. If it smells good, looks appealing and is easy to eat they may just be willing to try it!
Boost confidence. Young children love to show what they can do and working in the kitchen provides opportunities to gain a sense of accomplishment. If they helped assemble the pizza, let them know that their help was important. You could name the pizza or another dish after your child. Serve "Jarrah's Pizza" or "Eddie's Salad" for dinner tonight. Even if the results are not exactly what you expected, praise their efforts.

Science News
In Science, the Year 4 students tested which ball had the greatest elasticity. They first proposed a hypothesis and then worked in groups to test the chosen balls. Students learnt the importance of making an investigation fair and accurate by recording the testing using slow motion video to check results!

SACRAMENTS and other matters
As in previous years, all classes will learn about Sacraments and rites of initiation in their Religious Education programs. For students of the Catholic faith, there will also be an opportunity to receive these Sacraments at St Vincent Palloti Catholic Church.
Baptism
Please contact Sr Julianne at school, or Fr Vinu (0475 846 331), at any time, to collect a “Request for Baptism” form. Baptism can occur during the week, or Saturdays/Sundays.
Other Matters
Mass is held each weekend, at St Vincent Pallotti Church on Saturdays at 5.30pm and Sundays at 8.30am. Weekday masses are held from Tuesday to Friday at 5.30pm. On Sundays, we have Children’s Liturgy during mass.
Fr Vinu is available for Reconciliation on any day, usually from about an hour before mass.
Juniper Visits
Visits to the Juniper Aged Care Facility continue to be a highlight, especially in light of the NAIDOC theme this year being "For Our Elders". We have a wonderful two-way learning between ourselves and our Juniper friends.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Sr Julianne or Miss Marion Roberts, through the school office, at any time if have queries or questions about our Religious Education program.

Send Your Kids to School
Send your kids to school - it is the best possible way they can get a good education.
If your child misses one 1 day per week of school,
by the time they are in Yr 4 they will have missed 1 whole year of school.
Already they will by 1 year behind expected learning!
It may take some tough love, but it is worth the effort to make your child go to school every day.
Set a good routine from Kindy, don't let them miss a day.
It will give them the best start in life.

Containers for Change
Thank you to those generous families who have donated their recycling money to our school through Containers for Change!

School Bus Pick-ups and Drop-offs
For the safety of our children, we would like to remind parents that children catching our white Coaster school bus will be dropped off in the afternoon ONLY at the address from which they are picked up in the morning.
Attempts to accommodate parents who ring during the day asking that their children be dropped off elsewhere have resulted in an number of confusing situations, whereby children have ended up going home to an empty house or to a house where they are not expected.
Children who live in Lakeside or out of town may not catch our bus home to a different address.
Your child can only be dropped off at a different address if it is an emergency situation (eg you have an emergency visit to the hospital and an arrangement has been made for your child to be cared for by another family member or friend).
Many thanks for your cooperation.
