2021 Term 3, Week 10
Principal's Piece
Dear Friends and Families
It is hard to believe it is the last week of Term 3; the year sure is flying by. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish our students and their families a safe and relaxing holiday. Hopefully this is a time for life to slow down a little and for everyone to have some rest. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday 11th October. Please remember our school closure day for Term 4 is on Friday 15th October.
We are still actively looking for a Supervisor at our OSHC, so if you know anyone with suitable qualifications, please encourage them to apply for the position. This week we introduced Miss Naomi Wharton to our Year 2 families. Following Mr A’s departure tomorrow, Naomi will be the teacher for Term 4. Naomi has spent this term at our school completing her final practicum for her teaching degree. She has been a wonderful addition to the team and is looking forward to working with the Year 2 students next term.
This week students have enjoyed a range of Wellbeing activities at lunch time organised by Miss Elle. The staff have also enjoyed their wellbeing activities such as pilates, casual dress day and a meeting-free week. We look forward to finishing the term off with our Shared Lunch and Community Wellness Afternoon.
In Term 4 our swimming program will return for students in Year 2 to 6. Lessons will begin in Week 2 and run through to Week 6. We are pleased to make this valuable opportunity available to our students and look forward to watching their progress. Thank you in advance to Marion, Jamie and Bec for running our swimming lessons. Please keep an eye out for permission notes which will be sent out in Week 1 Term 4.

Hopefully you would have seen in last week's newsletter the announcement about my appointment as the substantive Principal for St Joseph's Kununurra. My family and I have really enjoyed our time here this year and are looking forward to making Kununurra our home for the next three years. St Joseph's is a beautiful school and I feel very privileged to work in such a kind and welcoming environment. I look forward to strengthening partnerships between families and the school and making sure St Joseph's continues to be a place of excellence where all students flourish.
Enjoy your holidays.

Thank you to all for your support towards creating our school video contribution to The Spirit of the Arts Festival in Perth later this month. We recorded multiple groups of students singing Faith in the Future, and are excited to be one of only seven schools that submitted a video, as a way of participating in the festival from a distance. Students really enjoyed the recording studio we set up in the library and were very professional in their approach.
Well done to you all - you were and are amazing!
